Cooper Lighting Solutions Sends Light and Hope to Ukraine

Every year, Cooper Lighting Solutions – the North American business unit of Signify, the world leader in lighting – makes a donation to the Signify Foundation, a global non-profit organization committed to increasing access to light and raising awareness of the value created by increasing energy efficiency.  The donation is part of the Cooper Lighting Solutions commitment to using the extraordinary power of light for brighter lives and a better world.

This year, Cooper Lighting Solutions chose to earmark its annual donation for the Foundation’s Chernigov (Ukraine) Region Project; specifically, bringing streetlighting back to 40,000 people in this region in Northern Ukraine that was heavily damaged at the beginning of the 2022 invasion.

“Our infrastructure was in bad shape once we got back control of the region,” according to Ballabushka O., a representative of one of the communities in the region. “Of course, nighttime driving was more dangerous without streetlights. And we just don’t feel safe going outside at night when it’s very dark.”

In effect, the new nighttime streetlighting will make the region safer for drivers and pedestrians, encourage commerce, especially during short winter days, and it will bring a sense of normalcy to a population that’s living with the ravages of war.

“During the occupation, Chernigov suffered a lot of destruction,” continues Ballabushka. “And having the streetlights restored will bring a great psychological boost to our communities and will provide more hope for the future.”

The new fixtures have been delivered and local installers have already begun putting up the high-performance, LED streetlighting fixtures Cooper Lighting Solutions helped fund – and helped make good on the promise to use the extraordinary power of light for brighter lives and a better world.
