Background
Vicksburg, Mississippi has a long and storied history. Though it has retained much of its historic charm, present-day Vicksburg is a vibrant, modern city. It was time for Vicksburg’s roadway lighting to be just as current.
Challenge
Vicksburg needed to update its old, inefficient roadway lighting.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) turned to us for help. And Cooper Lighting Solutions delivered.
Solution
To keep things simple, the MDOT wanted to minimize the number of SKUs used to complete the project. Cooper Lighting Solutions used just one fixture type for all the various roadway applications: the Streetworks Navion.
The Navion luminaire offers a wide variety of optical distributions and features, making it a great solution for roadway and high-mast applications.
Another key requirement for the MDOT was that the new light fixtures allow for fast and easy maintenance. In high traffic areas, this helps minimize interruptions to motorists, and helps keep contractors safe by getting them on and off the job quickly.
The project also called for 20kV surge protection and a weight consideration for older high-mast structures. The Navion easily eliminated these concerns to get the job done.
Results
The combination of worldclass optical performance and versatility enabled Streetworks Navion LED roadway lighting to meet all of the MDOT's goals for Vicksburg:
- Improved safety for motorists and maintenance crews
- Increased energy efficiency and lowered energy costs
- Resulted in faster and easier maintenance which, in turn, reduced maintenance costs for the city
